On Saturday evening, January 3, 2015, I met a group of photographers below the Zakim Bridge in Boston, MA for what turned out to be an awesome night photography experience with steel wool. I had always seen pictures on Instagram featuring steel wool and talked to a good photographer friend about doing it on our own. Steel wool experts came out for the evening from outside the Boston area to show us the ropes and allow us to capture some amazing steel wool photos. Despite the freezing rain/wintry snowy mix and cold temperatures, we braved the weather and had a great time. It was a pleasure to spend time with fellow photographers – seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones.
One of the highlights of the night was walking over to an abandoned train near the Zakim Bridge and Bunker Hill Community College, below I-93. It was a different experience to create the steel wool effect inside the abandoned train cars and capture it through our camera lenses. My brother, a videographer, was among the group filming the whole experience. He put together the video above with highlights from the evening – a big shout out to him and his company: Camayah Films!
Watch the video for a recap from the Boston Steel Wool meet. We hope you enjoy!
