Happy New Year!
When starting off a new year, many of us reflect on the previous year and make a list – short or long – of resolutions we want to accomplish during the course of the year. For myself, my journey with photography has been one with many ups and many downs. Overall, I can say that photography is a hobby that makes me genuinely happy and allows me to express my creativity in ways I never imagined.
I have gone back and forth between portrait and landscape photography. My ultimate goal at one point was to become a wedding photographer – something about capturing love and happiness attracted me to it. I figured I would first need to build my portrait portfolio in hopes of landing my first wedding. Long story short, I quickly found out that dealing with people (personalities, finances, demands, etc.) just wasn’t my thing. Even the ones I asked time and time again to shoot, for free, I had to chase down. It took away from my passion for photography. I put all my equipment away and even stopped taking pictures of my two kids, which is the reason why I fell in love with photography! After a long, late night talk with my fiancée, she helped me realize that portrait photography just wasn’t for me and helped me re-focus on what I love most (besides shooting my two kids) – landscape/cityscape photography.
With a renewed focus and determination to capture amazing images, I decided to completely redesign my website to showcase my work and push forward with my landscape/cityscape photography. In just the last two weeks, I have been able to capture amazing lighthouses in Maine and Rhode Island (I had never seen a lighthouse in person prior to this!) and the longest suspension bridge in New England, the Claiborne Pell Bridge aka the Newport Bridge. This was just the start and I plan to visit and photograph all types of beautiful locations and monuments in New England and across the United States. Of course, I will also continue to photograph Massachusetts and aspire to be one of the best cityscape photographers in Boston!
